Kalshi Is Blocking Insiders Before They Can Bet
Kalshi now blocks politicians, athletes, and other public figures from betting on markets tied to themselves.
Kalshi added new guardrails over the weekend. Politicians, athletes, and other public figures are now blocked from trading in markets tied to their own outcomes. So if you're running for office, you can't bet on your own race. If you're playing in a game, you can't wager on it. Makes sense.
The rules also cover anyone involved in college or professional sports, coaches, referees, the whole group. They can't trade on contracts tied to their sport. The timing is sus though. There's a bill in the US right now that would ban prediction markets from offering sports-related contracts altogether. Kalshi says they've been working on these guardrails for months, but it's hard not to notice the timing.
Most people won't be affected by this, especially if you saw this and went *Who is Kalshi?*. But it's one of those updates that makes you think, okay, someone probably should have thought of that sooner. Now they have.
