TypeScript 7’s Go Rewrite
TypeScript 7’s Go Rewrite Targets 10x Speed
TypeScript 7.0 preview hits feature parity as Microsoft pushes toward a Go-native compiler promising 10x speed gains by early 2026.
Microsoft’s Project Corsa hit a new milestone today as the team confirmed that TypeScript 7.0 previews are now reaching feature parity with the current JS-based compiler on core editing tools like auto-imports, quick fixes, and IntelliSense behavior. This is a big deal because once parity is locked in, nothing stops them from fully switching over to the Go-native compiler path.
Why This Matters
The Go rewrite isn’t just a rewrite for fun. It’s designed to bring serious gains: up to 10x faster builds, smoother incremental compiles, lower memory usage, and better performance on massive monorepos where today’s TypeScript setup can feel sluggish. Microsoft aims to ship the Go-native TypeScript compiler (internally called Corsa) in early 2026, with Q1 as the current target if previews stay stable.
TypeScript 6.0 will bridge the gap in the meantime, keeping the existing JavaScript/Node compiler while the Go version matures. By the time TypeScript 7 lands, developers may see one of the biggest workflow speed upgrades the ecosystem has ever had.
The Takeaway
TypeScript isn’t getting a glow-up. It’s getting a new engine. If Project Corsa lands on schedule, 2026 could be the year massive codebases finally stop feeling heavy. Faster builds, lighter tooling, and a compiler built for scale are officially on the horizon.
