Sunday Security Reset
Your 15-Minute Sunday Security Reset
Fifteen minutes. One timer. A handful of small moves that can make your digital life harder to mess with.
You don’t need a full digital overhaul. You don’t need a three-hour security deep dive and twelve open tabs. You just need 15 minutes and a little consistency.
Think of this like brushing your teeth, but for your digital life. Small. Boring. Set a timer. Move through this once a week. That’s it.
Minute 1–3: Check for Breaches
Go to Have I Been Pwned and type in your main email address. If it shows up in a breach, don’t panic. Make a note of which account was involved and plan to change that password next.
You’re not fixing everything right now. You’re just checking the dashboard. Awareness first.
Minute 4–7: Change One Important Password
Pick one account you actually care about. Email. Banking. Your primary social account. If the password is reused anywhere else, change it. If it’s short or simple, change it. If you can’t remember when you set it, change it.
Use a password manager if you have one. If you don’t, this is a good moment to start. One strong, unique password per week adds up fast.
Minute 8–10: Turn On 2FA for One Account
Search for the account name plus two-factor authentication and turn it on. If you’re using SMS codes, that’s okay for now. An authenticator app is stronger, but something is always better than nothing.
Two-factor authentication blocks most opportunistic attacks. It’s one of the highest-impact security moves you can make in under five minutes.
Minute 11–13: Install One Update
Install that update you’ve been ignoring. Phone. Laptop. Tablet. Even your router if you’re feeling ambitious.
Many updates include security patches. The kind that fix vulnerabilities before you even know they existed.
Minute 14–15: Delete One Unused App
Remove one app you don’t use anymore. Especially if it has account access, connects to your email, or stores payment information.
Less surface area means less risk. Fewer forgotten logins. Fewer entry points.
That’s It
You didn’t overhaul your entire digital life. You didn’t read a giant security manual. You just reduced your risk in 15 minutes.
Do this every Sunday and in a few months your digital footprint will look very different. Fewer reused passwords. More accounts protected. Fewer forgotten access points.
Security doesn’t have to be about paranoia. Small habits can make it harder for you to be exploited. Most attackers look for easy targets, so you don’t need to be perfect. You just need to stop being easy.
