Copilot Ads in Pull Requests? GitHub Backtracks After Backlash
GitHub disabled Copilot product tips after users found ads disguised as helpful comments in pull requests.
GitHub tried something new this week. Copilot started adding promotional content to pull requests. Not full banner ads, just small hidden HTML comments framed as helpful tips. Except the tips were pitching Raycast integrations. Users noticed the same message showing up across repositories.
Devs called it out, and GitHub responded quickly. They disabled the feature and said the product tips were *paused thanks to the feedback*. The backtrack came fast, it clearly didn’t land.
GitHub's own documentation suggests Copilot can 'explain code, suggest changes, and even summarize feedback'. It doesn't mention sponsored messages.
