Apple Unveils the $599 iPhone 17e

Apple just introduced the iPhone 17e, starting at $599. It's the more affordable option in the lineup, but it's not stripped down like older budget models used to be.

The 60Hz display will probably stand out if you’re used to higher refresh rates (pro models stay at 120 Hz ProMotion), especially since smoother panels have become common even outside flagship pricing. Looks like they made a choice: keep the cost down, keep the experience mostly consistent.

A19 chip: AAA gaming, 4K streaming + more.

The 3nm A19 chip at this price is interesting. It puts the latest silicon into a $599 device, which should give you strong everyday performance and better battery efficiency. It's the same node as the A19 Pro in the iPhone 17 Pro series, but with slightly lower clocks and fewer GPU cores.

There is also the C1X modem, part of Apple’s current push to control more of its own connectivity stack. That's been gradual, but each new model makes it a little clearer.

On the camera side, the 48MP Fusion system carries over the high-resolution approach Apple has been leaning into, using the same main sensor tech as higher-end models.

So that's the iPhone 17e. A lower entry price, current-generation silicon, a familiar design, and a few tradeoffs. If you just want a new iPhone without crossing into four-figure territory, this is now the starting point.
